How can a travel book help me plan my next trip?
Travel books are a great supplement to the Web for travel information, tips and ideas. They offer a lot of information about a destination or type of trip, where to buy gear, places to eat, things to see and do. And it's all in one place, in a portable format, so you can take the book with you to consult enroute.
A number of titles offer suggestions for adventure vacations with kids, some focus on specific age groups or keeping kids occupied on the road. One travel expert, Dorothy Jordan, has a series of books on traveling with kids. Jordan was one of the first travel writers to focus on family travel.
But there are so many books on traveling with children that it's hard for me to recommend one without knowing your family's travel interests (such as whether taking a ski vacation, trip to the beach, visiting a theme park, discovering history, or hiking in the mountains appeals most) and ages of your children. The best advice is to go to the bookstore and leaf through various titles. You'll be astounded by the variety and depth of information available.
