Expert Q&A

What is the best place to breastfeed on an airplane?

You can breastfeed anywhere on the airplane that you feel comfortable. You might find you have more room if you request a seat behind the bulkhead where there is typically a little more room to maneuver. The rear of the plane tends to be a little bumpier, so that might not be the best choice.

A window seat might give you a little more privacy. If you are traveling with another adult and wish some extra privacy, have your companion read a well-placed newspaper next to you!

If you can fly during non-peak hours, you might luck out and get a flight that is not as crowded, which makes flying with a small infant a lot easier -- regardless of whether you are breastfeeding!

Breastfeeding during takeoff and landing will help stabilize the air pressure in your baby's ears -- much like chewing gum will for adults.

Happy traveling!
