Expert Q&A

We would like to borrow a friend's crib. Are there any regulations we should follow or things we should look at?

When borrowing a crib, here are some things you must know:

  • The bars on a crib should be 2 3/8 inches apart, no more.
  • There should also be no spaces between the headboard for baby to fit their head in and get stuck.
  • Posts on the four corners of a crib are not safe as clothing can easily get caught on them.

One other reminder is to carefully check the crib that was borrowed. Look for any loose parts, any chips or sharp edges anywhere on the crib, even underneath and be sure mattress fits securely inside crib. And, remember not to place the crib (or changing table) under a window.
