Windy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

Follow Windy's adventures as she takes a trip to southern Colorado with her MOMS Club.

November 30, 1999

We went camping in some of the most beautiful country in southern Colorado. We were just outside of Canon City, near the Arkansas River. The scenery is breathtaking, with sheer rock cliffs on one side and the river on the other. I'm sorry I didn't have my camera with me so that I can show you. We were there with two other families from my MOMS Club. There were a total of six adults and seven kids that range in age from 10 months to 5 years old. The first day was spent lounging around and setting up. The bugs were horrible because of the pond in the middle of the campground and they seem to be immune to citronella.

One of the other moms and I went river rafting! What a wonderful feeling! These were only class III rapids, but what fun we had. We traveled for about 10 miles down the river and experienced about five rapids that left us totally drenched. Lucky us, we sat in the front of the boat, but we actually liked it. It was also wonderful to get away from the kids for a while and the only screaming we heard came from us. That night, we came back and had a potluck type of dinner and later sat around the citronella candles after the kids were put to bed. One bummer about this trip is the burn ban put into effect because of the dry weather and previous forest fires. Roasting marshmallows over a propane stove just doesn't cut it for S'mores.

Time to pack up. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and packed up. We did stop in Canon City for lunch and visited the Dinosaur Depot. This is where they display some dinosaurs that have been found in the nearby area. Very interesting and informative.

Next month, I will be heading to Minnesota for a visit with family and then we will be on another camping trip to Buena Vista, Colo. I will remember to bring my camera so that you will have a visual to go along with my entries. I hope everyone has a fun summer!
