Aaron (3 1/2) slept slightly better last night. I found some cough medicine in my overnight bag, but it only lasted four hours. Then I had to give him another. I developed a sore throat and cough a few days ago, but attributed it to over-exerting my voice at Disneyland. I think now that maybe I caught a cold and passed it on to poor Aaron.

Bryan had to move out of his private room -- the guest room with the twin Bed -- to accommodate Jim's paternal grandmother. Even so, Bryan seemed well-rested this morning. Grandma Hemig came up from Roseville yesterday to spend some time with us. We had a very nice visit. She played Uno with Bryan and Jim, and she presented me with a family heirloom ring. It’s beautiful, and I feel honored she chose to give it to me.

I had spent about an hour yesterday afternoon organizing our clothes, so I only had to stuff a couple of last-minute things, like our PJs, into the suitcase this morning.

We had to leave for the Reno airport by 9:15 a.m. I was a little concerned about getting everyone up and ready by then, but it was a needless worry. We were all up around 7:00 a.m., so we had plenty of time to get ready. Jim’s dad had to go to work early, so he told us good-bye about the time we were waking up.

While I finished packing, the boys got to take some more seed out for the animals, then watched from the deck as a hummingbird swooped around and darted up to the hummingbird feeder.

We actually left Truckee on time. There was only room for five in the car, the four of us and Jim’s mom as driver. So we had to say our good-byes to Grandma Hemig at the house.

We got to Reno about an hour before our plane was supposed to leave. When we checked in, we found out that fog in San Francisco had delayed our flight. There wasn’t a direct flight available between Reno and Portland, so we had to stop and change planes in San Francisco. The good news was that we were able to get seats -- all together -- on an earlier flight to S.F. that was going to be leaving about the same time our original flight was supposed to leave.
