June 25, 2000

We got up, got ready and got out of the house on time today. I was completely amazed. I shouldn't have been, though. When Jim's home, he helps get the boys ready. We're rarely late when he's around.

This is the first time Aaron, 3 ½, has ever flown in an airplane. Bryan, 6 ½, last flew when he was 2, so it's new to him all over again. Their different personalities were reflected in the way they initially reacted to being in the plane -- Aaron thought it was exciting, and Bryan saw it as scary. Especially during take-off.

What's interesting about all this is that I ended up sitting next to Aaron on the plane, and Jim, who is afraid to fly himself, ended up with Bryan. The plane was totally full. We had to beg people on the plane to trade seats with us so we could at least each sit with one of the kids. Our seat assignments were originally in four different rows. Can you imagine? Ah, the joys of traveling with small children.

We spent most of today traveling, including shuttling from the airport to the rental car lot, driving to the hotel, shuttling from the hotel to Disneyland and back again.

Yes, after dinner with some extended family we actually got to spend a couple of hours at Disneyland, on the appointed day per the sticker calendars.

Of course, by that time (8:30 p.m.) the kids were tired and grumpy. We just missed the 45 Years of Magic Parade of the Stars. We did get to go on one ride, Star Tours in Tomorrowland, and to watch the Fireworks Spectacular. I'm sure you've heard fireworks described as a dazzling array of lights before. I have. But this one truly was. I was impressed.

I just got the kids to bed at 10:30 p.m., and now Iım taking this time for myself to unwind and recharge, for tomorrow it's Disneyland all day. The crowds, the heat, the lines. Stay tuned...
