Shelly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 22, 2000

Today wasn't very productive. I got about half my laundry folded. The other half is in baskets on the floor. I ran the dishwasher, but ran out of time to unload it. DH took care of that for me. I still haven't unloaded all the bags from my shopping excursion yesterday. They are littering the floor of my living room. I have piles on my piles on my desk. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning. Then I hung out at my friend's house afterward. She and I trade off childcare. I had her kids for a couple of hours yesterday, and she had mine for a couple of hours today. It sure is nice to have a friend with whom I can trust my kids.

Of course, hanging out at my friend's house meant I got nothing done in my own. Procrastination's a wonderful thing. Can you say "sarcasm"? I still have to fold laundry, choose which clothes to take with us, pack the suitcases, the overnight case, the boys' backpacks, and my backpack, which I bought yesterday especially for this trip. I need to remember to bring the camera and the camcorder. I'm sure I'll forget one of the two. It's inevitable. No matter how much I plan, no matter how much I organize, I somehow manage to forget at least one important item when we go on a trip. Every single time. So, in addition to worrying about what to pack, I'm already stressing about what I'm likely to forget.

On a brighter note, for the past nine days, since my son's last day of school on the 14th, I've been helping the boys count down the days until Disneyland. I bought some stickers with Disney characters on them, and each night before bed the boys choose a sticker to cover up that day. I have circled the 25th in red, so when they get to that day, they will know it's the day we are leaving for Disneyland. My six-year-old is pretty aware already, he has a better sense of the passing of time, but I think the stickers have helped my 3-year-old to understand the passing of the days a little better.

We are all very excited about this trip! Tomorrow's entry: a packing update -- what to bring, what to leave behind.
