Kay and Antonio have decided to stay in Southern Alberta. :0) They haven't decided exactly which town they will settle in yet but are busy looking for houses. Kay told me she really wanted to be in a town with a school but she is willing to settle in Barons. The house they are looking at here has the advantage of the furnishings being included. That would save them a ton of money initially. Adrien isn't enrolled in school yet because Kay hasn't wanted to make a decision about where he is going to go to school until they pick a permanent location. Actually, my son isn't enrolled in school yet because I can't decide where to send him! :0)
Antonio got his beginner's drivers license yesterday! I guess third time is a charm! Ha ha. The weird thing about the licensing here is that he can use his Dubai license for three months and his international license for 12 months, but in order to get a Canadian driver's license he has to start all over again. To me, that makes no sense at all. If he is able to drive here for a year then why not just change the international license to an Alberta license. Money grab? Maybe. :0)
Adrien has had no problems at all making friends. Kids are very adaptable. While they were staying here, he had lots of friends to hang around with and within days of being in Nobleford he had more friends! I think it's great he is adjusting so easily. Kay and Antonio are doing pretty well too. Sometimes adults may not have the ability to accept change as well as children do, but they seem to be getting along quite well.
They have had some problems with the banks here. I don't think the employees are used to dealing with international funds. I can understand Kay's frustration! She was telling me about her run in with the teller. Of course, dealing with banks of any kind can be a pain! Another "pain" they have encountered is not having a car. Because we are out in these small towns, there is no bus service. They walked from Nobleford to Barons. I thought they were kidding! It takes about 2 1/2 hours to walk that far! They walked along the highway hoping to get a ride, which they did but it was about a kilometer outside of Barons. I still can't believe they walked! People in Nobleford aren't as friendly as people in Barons so I guess they couldn't get a ride here. They had no problem getting a ride back though.
Next things on their list are car, house, and school. I'll keep you posted!
