November 15, 2000
p> Disneyland, November 15, 2000Day 3
Today was a long day.
We started by being in the park at 10 a.m. and didn't leave until after it was closed -- no naps, no hotel stops, just non-stop Disney-ing. Can you say "tired parents"? We had a fantastic day though, another day of the boys being on their best behavior. The downfall today was that Andrew decided to boycott his stroller, which meant that he walked a LOT, which means he got tired and wanted to be carried a LOT. I'm surprised my back is still holding up. He weighs about 35 pounds, so he can really wear on your arms. He has started watching through the Haunted Mansion and the pirates. I guess when you ride it three times a day for three days, you get used to it. :-)
Today it was warm enough and Matthew and I rode Splash Mountain. We almost always get wet, but we both love that ride and just try and do it when the wind isn't blowing too badly. Andrew was thrilled when we waited and had a photo taken with Winnie the Pooh. He doesn't talk much, but leaving Pooh was worth a wave and a "Bye Bye Pooh." It was a heart melting moment. Andrew was also happy that we went to see the Country Bear Jamboree. It's a special show for the holidays and he really enjoyed it. If there is music involved, Andrew is happy.
We were able to try out the newly opened Autopia today. Matthew liked it but Andrew wasn't too enthused. He didn't want help driving which meant we bounced a few times and he didn't like that at all. They won't let you ride little ones on your lap, so I'm not sure he saw much either. He sure did look good in the car though.
We started and ended today with the Pirates and the Haunted Mansion. We
ate
dinner in that side of the park and the Mardi Gras Christmas was in full
swing. Andrew even took some time out to dance along with a street
performer tap dancing to a jazz quartet.
Both boys got to see Aladdin and Jasmine today along with Woody (who got
quizzed by Matthew as to where Bullseye was). Matthew loves all the
characters but we're finding that Andrew is afraid of the ones that are
more
people-like. Give him a big overstuffed suit and he's fine. Give him
Jasmine in her crown and he's out of there faster than you can
blink.
Here is our survival tip for today: sugar. The boys were quickly starting to fade out and we weren't close to the tram or even the monorail. We made a quick dash into a candy store (they're everywhere) and let them each get something. Andrew got a lollipop and Matthew got a WonderBall. Between the short rest and the treat, they were ready to keep going and we avoided arguments stemming from tired kids.
The boys continue to amaze us with how good they are being. Terry and I, on the other hand, are thinking that we might need a vacation to recoup from our vacation. :-)
Check in tomorrow for more antics.
