Day 1
The day started off early -- very early. I was up at 5 a.m. to shower
and get
dressed, and then it was Terry's turn to leave the warmth of the bed
sheets
for the cold bathroom. Our flight was due to leave at 8:20 a.m. We live
close to the airport but it was the direction of the morning commute and
we
wanted to allow ourselves extra time since we're always late to the
gate.
Our friend Erin drove two very groggy children and us to the airport
where
we were quite pleased to find that we were there about an hour before
our
flight. Unfortunately, the plane was over an hour late and we spent two
hours trying to entertain those groggy children.
Once the plane arrived and we were underway, all was good. The boys handled the flight well. As is typical of us, Terry sat with Matthew and I took Andrew. Andrew seemed to have some mild ear problems but we sang "Row Row Row Your Boat" to get his jaw moving and pop his ears. That seemed to do the trick. From there we claimed our luggage and hopped on the shuttle to the hotel. Andrew finally gave up and fell asleep and Matthew looked like he was headed that direction when we arrived at the hotel.
Matthew informed us that he "thought" we were at Disneyland. In fact, he
was insistent that we were there despite our futile parental attempts to
tell him otherwise. Later he would tell us it was because he saw the
Disneyland Hotel. Terry still holds that its because the Disney people
put
mouse ears on everything they can. :-)
Our room was ready and they upgraded us to a suite so we have a parlor area and a separate bedroom. It includes Concierge service, which we have never had before. It includes continental breakfasts every morning, drinks all day long, wine and cheese every night from 5-7 p.m. and movies that you could take back to your room and watch. All services were free by simply showing our room card.
After dropping off our luggage, we headed right into the park via the
monorail. Matthew wanted to hit all his favorite rides first. The
Matterhorn topped his list, along with The Haunted Mansion and The
Pirates
of the Caribbean. We made a pass through Adventureland and Matthew was
finally tall enough to ride Indiana Jones. Terry rode with him and he
hated
it -- too dark and jerky. He didn't cry, just told us when he came off
that
he didn't like it. Fair enough.
The "tissue" moment from today came from It's A Small World. Just as we
were
getting off the ride this evening they announced to the park to look
toward
It's A Small World and the counted down from 3 and WHOOSH, It's a Small
World in a million twinkling lights. It was just so great and Andrew was
in
awe. He loves Small World. He hid through everything else, but we've
been
catching him peeking. :-)
Tomorrow is more of whatever the boys feel like doing. Terry and I are looking forward to some sleep tonight.
