Hotels?

We've stayed in all sorts on our Disney trips. When we were broke dating students, we stayed in the really budget hotels ... the kind where 'room service' is walking to the lobby to use the vending machine and taking your soda and bag of chips back to your room. We did that for several years, always using the logic that we were never in the room, so why spend a lot of money on it.

That all changed when we honeymooned at Walt Disney World. Of course, it was a special occasion, so we opted for a room in one of the resort hotels and we were hooked. Our next trip down to Disneyland was with my sister and her, then, boyfriend (now husband). It was also our first trip to the park during the Christmas holiday season. I booked all four of us into the Disneyland Hotel. It was the first time we had ever stayed there and it didn't disappoint. The hotel was as decorated as the park was and we had a fantastic time.

Our trip down in May '98 we stayed in the Pacific hotel, recently acquired by the Disney people. It was then we learned the value of extra room. Matthew was tired and we would often eat lunch and return to the room so he could take a nap. Well, we were stuck. It was the middle of day, but we had the drapes drawn so he could sleep. We couldn't watch TV because it would wake him up, and we couldn't talk because, you guessed it, it would wake him up.

When we returned in December '99, now with two kids in tow, we bit the bullet and reserved a suite at the Disneyland hotel. To this day I don't know what it cost because I book all of our vacations as packages through the Magic Kingdom Club and I get a discount for being a member. Whatever it was, it was worth it. We would come back and the kids could nap in room while my husband and I watched TV in the living area. We could order up room service if we were hungry, or plan out what we were going to do that evening.

So, can you guess what we have this time? Well, this trip we're staying at the Pacific Hotel (just to be different) but so far we've been unable to get a suite. :-( We booked the "Fall Getaway Special" (it was a great deal) but it only includes regular rooms. I'm hoping that once we get down there they will have a suite available and we can upgrade then. Fingers crossed?

Till next time!
