Last night we visited Scott and Dulce Stetzer, some old friends of ours
that
live in the area. Dulce is eight months pregnant and Scott is the
typical
anticipatory father. And here we are with our 2-year-old twin tornadoes.
Or
should I say hurricanes since were along the coast? We went out for some
pizza and some obnoxiously delicious ice cream sundaes. Bella had a
potty-training fiasco at the pizza parlor, the twins did laps around our
table and they ended the evening smashing clown sundaes all over their
persons. I almost felt guilty about doing this to unsuspecting
parents-to-be.
Innocently, they have no idea about the world in which they are about to
be
thrust. But ever so graciously, our little family gave them a 4-hour
case
study of chaos. I found myself apologizing for my kids even though there
was
really no need. I longed for adult conversation without interruption
with my
old pal Dulce -- but it just wasn't going to happen. She said she
understood,
but I still missed having that "girl talk" connection with her. And
indeed,
she will truly understand one day soon.
