Jill's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 27, 2000

There's nothing like restaurant antennas. We try to ignore them but they are always right. The needs of parents with toddler twins aren't complicated. We simply yearn for some peace and quiet, adult conversation and a hot meal. After all, dinner at McDonalds meets this criteria. But no, since we had the grandparents baby-sitting and we were on vacation, we felt compelled to dine at a "nice" restaurant on the Bay. One nasty meal, one sent-back meal, one semi-quiet over-priced table later, we had learned our lesson about restaurant antennas. Here's the bottom line: when you enter an eating establishment and get the sense that you shouldn't dine there for no particular reason, leave immediately. But there you are, caught in the parent conundrum. You're out, you're free, you're being an adult and you just don't feel like restaurant hopping -- so you stay. Big mistake, but oh well. Sometimes a semi-quiet locale beats a good hot meal hands down. Through it all, the time alone for Richard and I was a blessing. We were actually able to connect, to talk as friends, hold hands … we even did a little eye-gazing.
