Jenna's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
November 25, 2000
Yes, we were some of the millions of people who went shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. The thing is that we don't really shop. Isn't that sad? The biggest shopping day of the year and we were just at the mall to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. Do you hate me? I sure hope not. I am sure there are people out there who would much rather me stay at home and out of their way, but I have to say "I enjoyed bumping into you."
Wes, my sister, Melanie, my kids and I all went to the Galleria Mall in Franklin. It was a blast. Melanie and I each bought a $6 shirt and shopped every sale rack in every store. When I said we didn't "shop" what I meant was that we didn't buy as such. We only bought the shirts because we found them for so cheap. Mostly we people watched. After two hours Melanie had to leave to go meet Zsichun (I think that is how you spell his name.) He is an ITA (international teachers assistant) at Vanderbilt University and Melanie works with him, helping to introduce him to American culture (an oxymoron) and working with his English. Well, we headed home around 2:00 and got to meet Stephen (his English name). He is just too nice. We love him. We spent hours talking with him. It was a neat way to spend a strictly American holiday.
At 5:30 my Mom and Dad and Melanie and Zsichun left to go see A Christmas Carol. My grandfather and uncles went to a hockey game and at 7, we went out to eat with Grandma, my aunt Mary, and five of my cousins. That was an experience. My cousin, Kelly ordered for herself. She asked for a dinner salad, a cheeseburger and a brownie that feeds four. The waiter was tickled and so were we, but it embarrassed Kelly so bad. She moved from lap to lap for most of the rest of the night with the exception of when her baked potato arrived -- that is what she settled on ordering, with my grandmother's help. We had a good time. Tomorrow, we leave. We were supposed to leave this afternoon to go to a wedding Saturday. We love our friends and will miss being at their wedding, but this is family and we are not going to see them for three years.
