Yesterday was kind of a do nothing day. My mom and I talked for a while, and we watched some videos from my church, that I had brought for her. My sister wanted to go get some movies from their local Blockbuster, (yes, they have one there!) and so we headed into town.

We decided to go get something to eat over at a café that she loves, which was right next to Blockbuster. I had a HUGE boreka which was too flaky, and I got it EVERYWHERE ... but Raquel and I had a chance to talk for a while, which was really nice!

East JerusalemToday, I needed to go into town to look for some hiking shoes, which I never found, and some gifts for people back home. So, I took Raquel with me. After coming out of an army surplus store, I turned to ask Raquel something, and as I did, I realized that a pigeon had just pooped on me! It was awful! Thankfully we were close to McDonald's, so we ran into the bathroom and washed up. It was so embarrassing! Everyone that witnessed this was cracking up and pointing at me! So much for dignity!

Well after this whole ordeal, and window shopping, we went to a cute café called Rif Raf, one of Raquel's favorite places. She told me that her and my brother went there a lot, when he lived at home.

Raquel at the Rif-Raf caféAfter we were done shopping, and eating, Raquel and I headed over to Dad's office to meet him for a ride home. At the last minute we decided to visit a Palestinian friend of his who lives in East Jerusalem. He had some books to give to him that were translated into Arabic. This man has an amazing story, but I hold myself back in telling much of it, because it could be a life or death situation for him. For this reason, I refrain from giving his name in my journal. He is the brother of a very good friend to my dad, who he had not seen in well over 20 years. One day he happened on his brother quite by accident. The family is Moslem, but the brother has had differing beliefs since the age of 6. He is taking care of his mother who is very sick and doesn't have much time to live. My dad offers fellowship and support to this friend whenever he can. I am sure that he is very grateful for my dad's company, and I was very glad that I got to meet him.
