En Route to Tel-AvivYikes! I am sitting in a café at the Amsterdam airport with a 7-hour layover. For lunch, I am enjoying a sandwich from a place called "The Sandwich Island.” It sits on the second floor and looks down on the rest of the airport. It’s a cute place. I just wish I had someone to talk to -- to keep me awake! Yawn…
I wasn’t able to sleep more than 30 minutes on the 8-hour plane ride
over, so I am running on NO energy. I actually had to get a Café Latte
to keep me awake. (For those of you who don’t know, I am NOT a coffee
drinker!) It took me a whole five minutes to figure out it did not have
sugar in it. I am sure that I will begin to feel much better after about
six consecutive hours of sleep on a horizontal surface. I have never
been to Amsterdam before now, and it has been a pretty good experience.
I wanted to leave the airport to "explore the city" but decided against
it. I was told that it’s a 45-minute train ride into town. (I found out
later that it's not.) I haven’t run across too many Americans here, and
surprisingly most of the people in and out of this airport are Dutch.
They seem to be a somewhat reserved people, but friendly and helpful.
This airport is great. They have quite a few cute, modern-ish, cafes,
and the largest duty-free shopping area in the world. It was pretty
overwhelming. I wish I had money to blow here. They even have a couple
of Cyber cafes. Cool! I was tempted to e-mail my husband, but I decided
not to waste my money on it.
