Donna's Diary Entries

Introduction

A zebra in the window! We slept until after 9 a.m. Ashlee woke me up and told me that Katie had gotten up and went to the potty. She has been doing this since the pool the day before. Hopefully this is not just a cool thing to do at the hotel, and she'll start using the potty at home. By the time we got dressed, packed up and checked out, it was after 11. We packed up the car and headed towards the Wildlife Safari Ranch. We stopped at Mama's Café for lunch. Ashlee was having a fit because she wanted breakfast. We asked if they had breakfast, and the waitress said they served it until 12:00. It was four minutes until 12. We sat down and told Ashlee to order hers NOW! :) She did, and she got her breakfast. The day was saved.

The safari is something we do every time we go to San Antonio. And, we always go on the way home. Kind of a tradition. The animals seems a little hot this time, and weren't as active as usual. I really can't blame them. It's been over 100 degrees for over a week now. We did have an elk, zebra and antelope come up to the car window. The ostriches that usually attack you were all laying under the trees. Those things are crazy! They'll snake their heads through the front seat and grab the entire bag of food if you'll let them. I usually roll up the window when I see one coming. They'll peck at the window if they see the food. Psycho birds. Katie really enjoyed the animals. She also enjoyed getting to sit on her daddy's lap and "drive" the van. This was our first time through the park since we got a mini-van. It's definitely better to go through in a car. Only the front windows go down in a van, so all five of us were in the front two seats.

We left the park and headed home. We actually drove through rain almost the whole trip home. Rain is not something we've seen for a while in Texas. When we got home, we found out that a major storm had blown through. I called my mom to let her know we were home, and she was without electricity. We really needed the rain. It was a nice welcome home.

I think this was one of the best vacations we've had. Everyone was healthy, happy (most of the time!) and seemed to enjoy themselves. Katie is still using the potty, so this trip will always be remembered for that! :)
