Donna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

July 20, 2000

It’s 12:30 a.m., the night (or should I say morning) before our trip. I am halfway packed. It’s so hard to pack when you have to still get dressed in the morning. Most of what I need I’ll pack as I get ready tomorrow. I am trying to keep what we take to a minimum this trip. We usually pack SO MUCH, and I end up having to wash all these clean clothes because they got so horribly wrinkled in the suitcase that it’s just easier to do that than iron them.

I am going through that “I know I’m going to forget something” stage right now. I wrote down the most important things: Astroworld season passes (we get in Fiesta Texas free with them, so they are very important!); diapers (yes, I know that they sell diapers in San Antonio, Mom…); baby wipes; the camera; and film (yes, San Antonio also sells film, I know…). Notice I didn’t put “clothes” on the list. While this is important, I would have no problem going to the River Center Mall and shopping for new clothes because I forgot them. :) Unfortunately my husband always makes sure I packed the kid’s clothes and mine.

Well, I have done all the damage I can do tonight. In the morning I’ll get up, get dressed, finish packing, round the kids up, and we’ll hit the road. By the way, I have three kids. Ashlee is 10, Michael is 6, and my youngest, Katie, will be 3 in three short weeks. Another thing I should mention … someone ALWAYS gets sick when we are about to leave, or when we’re on vacation. It never fails. Last year Michael started running a fever as we walked down the River Walk. On the second trip, Ashlee had a horrible cold and hacked the whole time keeping everyone awake all night. The day we were leaving for St. Louis (we went there in March), I had to go to the doctor for a bladder infection. While the doctor was telling me what I should drink, avoid, etc., Michael leaned over and puked in the doctor’s sink. Wonderful. Luckily, he went home, took a nap, and woke up feeling 70 percent better, so we went ahead and left as planned. Tonight at his baseball game is had to sit down because he felt “like I’m going to throw up.” I wasn’t surprised a bit. Luckily, he was just hungry and got a little overheated. He sat down a few minutes, drank a little water, and went back in the game. Whew! Here’s to a fun and healthy trip this time!
