Sunday
10/29/00
We were up bright and early this morning -- 6:30 for us, 7 for the kids.
We showered, dressed and ate breakfast and were out the door by 8
a.m.
We headed out with Patti and her family following us, both of the girls were so excited to finally be going to "Mickey Mouse's House" they could barely sit still. After we realized our map was wrong -- again -- we made it to the Magic Kingdom problem free. After we parked and we got the girls settled down enough to hold our hands in the parking lot we all started in. The Monorail ride was uneventful as was going through the main gate. Then we turned the corner on Main Street and we could see Cinderella's castle. It looked so beautiful. We walked through the park as far as we could, which was to the inside of the castle. We waited there with Patti and Mike and the kids until they opened the park. As soon as they did we went our separate ways for the day.
The first ride we jumped on was Snow White. It is a "dark ride" and I
guess I have never looked at it through the eyes of a 5-year-old.
Both of the kids were slightly frightened, but we made it through OK.
Next we went to "It's a Small World," which Alexis loved, and then
to Peter Pan. We visited lots of the different rides, Alexis' favorites
were Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space
Mountain. Caleb's favorites were Buzz Lightyear and Dumbo.
Our first purchase of the day was an autograph book and a pen for Alexis. We collected several different autographs that day including, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Mr. Smee, The Mad Hatter (who asked her if she lived in a tomato, and told her to give her state -- Illinois -- an aspirin), Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. This quickly became a game to us, to get every signature that we could.
We had lunch at "The Pinocchio Village Haus" where we have eaten every
time we have been there. The kids loved it because they had
hot dogs. Phillip and I have tried to make it our own little tradition
to go for lunch at least once when we visit the Magic Kingdom. The first
time we went we had "Ghepetto burgers" that were topped with pineapple,
they were not on the menu anymore. :-)
We started the afternoon by going to Mickey's Toon Town Fair, where we walked through Minnie and Mickey's houses. The kids had a great time seeing where Minnie and Mickey lived. Phillip and Alexis rode The Barnstormer while Caleb and I looked at some of the different sites.
We finished out the afternoon and were ready to head back by the time
the park closed at 6. Of course we got lost again, but finally made
it home where we had dinner.
Both kids did get Mickey (Minnie) ears with their names embroidered on them before we left. And Alexis bought a fanny pack to replace her lost back pack.
So, our first day was a really good one. The kids both had a good time and behaved very well, the lines were not too long on any one ride (20 minutes for Dumbo was our longest wait), and the weather was perfect. We could only hope the rest of our trip would go as smooth.
