If You're Ever In Oahu, Hawaii...

A visit to the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian chain of islands can be a memorable vacation adventure. As you step off the plane, you will marvel at the natural beauty, endless white-sand beaches, sweet-smelling aroma of the tropical flowers and warm sunny days and evenings.

One can tour the island in a day; however, I suggest taking two or three days to see the sights, dine in the fine restaurants, swim in the gentle coves and explore the famous big-wave surfing beaches.

Here are some of the best hotels, activities and dining experiences in Oahu:

Best Hotel Chain
If you want a hotel right on the beach, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts have the Outrigger Reef and the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Hotel that offer gorgeous views of the sparkling Pacific and Diamond Head. Both have restaurants, pools and large beach areas. Rooms with ocean views start at $380, while standard rooms start at $230. For information call 800-OUTRIGGER or check for their room specials at www.outrigger.com.

Best View of Waikiki
Climb aboard the Outrigger Catamaran ladder and sail out to sea. This sailing vessel departs at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and has a special sunset cruise at 5 p.m. Meet the captain in front of the Outrigger Reef hotel and sail for one and a half hours past Diamond Head. Flying fish will appear above the wake of the boat, and panoramic views of Molokai Island and Waikiki are visible for you to enjoy. Be sure to bring your camera and sunscreen. Tickets can be purchased inside the Outrigger Reef Hotel or call 808-922-2210 to make reservations. Ask for their $5 special on the early sailings.

Best New Restaurant
Located upstairs in the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel and away from the traffic on Kalakaua Ave. is the Tiki Grill and Bar. Arrive before 6:30 p.m. while the sun is starting to set. Sit outside and sample their lavender-colored Taro rolls with a hint of sweet Maui onions. They arrive with a wonderful banana-vanilla bean butter. For an appetizer, Baked Oysters a la Tiki are served on a half shell, with a blue crab crust and lobster hollandaise sauce for only $6.95. From the main menu, order the Chef's Signature King Salmon for $15.95. This dish is as pretty as it tastes. The fresh salmon is glazed with special seasonings and caramelized cane sugar. It is served on a bed of Molokai purple sweet potatoes with a lemongrass beurre blanc sauce. Honestly, this is the best salmon I have ever tasted! Tiki's Grill & Bar is located at 2570 Kalakaua Ave. Call 808-923-8454 for more information.
