Best Bakery on the North Shore
A local secret is Ted's Bakery near Sunset beach on Highway 83. Surfers drop by to grab a breakfast sandwich: one fried egg, two slices of bacon and cheese on a freshly baked roll for $2.50. Local restaurants buy their chocolate and coconut pie from Ted. At lunchtime, locals line up to buy Ted's delicious Crab and Bacon sandwich for $3.50. Don't judge it from the outside, go inside and smell the freshly-baked goodies. 
Best Activity for Families
Located at 64-1550 Kamehameha Highway is the Dole Plantation. Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. is the World's Largest Maze. Tromp on nearly 2 miles of red dirt paths lined with colorful Hawaiian plants in search of six hidden stations. Each station has a stencil that families must slide their maze card under and stamp. Prizes are given to those who complete their card and get to the finish line in the fastest time. Afterward, treat yourself to a delicious pineapple-whip ice cream and walk through the free informational display about the garden of pineapples from around the world. There is a 20-minute, narrated train ride on the Pineapple Express. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.
