If You're Ever In Hershey, Pennsylvania...

By Ellen Scolnic

"The Sweetest Place on Earth" is not just a slogan when you visit Hershey Pa., home of the famous, same-named candy company. The chocolate company that built and still supports a town is still hard at work, churning out Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Twizzlers licorice and, of course, plenty of Hershey's chocolate. You can take a tour of the (faux) factory, where your family rides in a roller coaster type cart through the "cocoa roasting ovens," past the "cows who give the freshest milk," past millions of Hershey kisses being stamped out on assembly lines and past almonds plunking down into rivers of chocolate. The tour ends with a free sample of candy, and you are deposited in the largest souvenir wholesale candy store you've ever seen. Chocolate World, the Hershey amusement park, has rides for kids of ALL ages with tame dinosaur go-rounds right next to dizzying tilt-a-whirls. You can and probably will win a stuffed animal at the many games of chance. A zoo, formal gardens and plenty of family-friendly hotels make Hershey, Pa. a sweet vacation spot!
