If You're Ever In County Wicklow, Ireland...
By Leah Lefler
and wondered what it would be like, this is the place to find out. Children can explore the grottos and the walled garden and climb to the top of the Pepperpot tower.
The Powerscourt Waterfall is 3.50 euro per adult and is stunning in its beauty. There is a wonderful children's playground here, and this makes a wonderful place for a picnic. It is close to the estate and garden, and both can be seen in one day.
Of course, my favorite place is on top of Bray Head, a slightly tricky hike for children, but OK for adults. From the top the trains race through tunnels by the sea, and the Irish Sea sparkles off to the east. There are cows and wild goats roaming placidly about. Blackberries grow freely to the side of the trail, and the prickles can sometimes lodge themselves in your jeans! Bray harbor has its own population of swans just below, and they are so tame they eat from your hand. This place is completely free and very off the tourist track. This is where we live, and it is a most wonderful place to be.
