If You're Ever In County Wicklow, Ireland...

We have lived in Ireland for five months, and every month is more magical than the last. We are in the small seaside town of Bray, just south of Dublin. The county we reside in is truly amazing and has many wonderful sights for adult travelers and families alike.

Glendalough is a site of monastic remains in the Wicklow Mountains, and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There is no entrance fee other than a guide, which costs about 70 cents. There is a cemetery with graves back to the 1100s, and a church from about 900 A.D. There are no fences to keep little ones from exploring the ruins close up. There is a high tower that reaches skyward and the church where St. Kevin lived (called St. Kevin's Kitchen, so named for the chimney which is prominent on the building).

There are multiple hiking trails, and it is possible to see deer, foxes and badgers. The upper lake is a glacial lake and is reminiscent of Scotland's loughs. Glendalough means pretty lake – and it certainly is. There is a small waterfall within easy reach of the upper lake.

There is also the Powerscourt Garden and Estate, which is stunning. The entrance fee is 8 euro per adult. If you have ever read the book The Secret Garden
