The Top Family-friendly Resorts for Family Fun
By Elisa Ast All
Dining is a unique experience as well. While table service is available at one of the restaurants, the main dining hall is a buffet-style extravaganza. Each night offers a different theme – Italian, Caribbean, Spanish and French are a few of the tastes you will enjoy. Be warned: There is almost too much food and too many desserts from which to choose. If you're not active enough during your vacation at Club Med, you could pack on a few extra pounds. The key is to only visit the buffet once – don't go back for seconds!
To experience the unique adventure of Club Med, call 888-932-2582 or visit www.clubmed.com.
Located in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains just 30 miles from Burlington International Airport, Smugglers' Notch – affectionately known as "Smuggs" by regular visitors – has earned a reputation as being among the top family-friendly resorts in the United States. It's easy to see why.
The resort village itself is nestled among 85 acres of lush landscape, with spectacular mountain views at every turn. The condominium-style accommodations are spacious and comfortable, with amenities such as kitchens and in-unit laundry. Sitting on a balcony overlooking the mountains, you'll feel at peace – even if the kids are running around the family room (which is equipped with a TV, VCR and stereo system).
Whether your children are tots or teens – or anywhere in between – there is a program designed with them in mind. From daycare to day camp, kids rule at Smugglers' Notch. Kid-friendly activities include a petting zoo, hiking trails, several swimming pools and meeting life-size versions of Mogul Mouse and Billy Bob Bear, the Smugglers' Notch mascots.
While your kids are having the time of their lives, there's plenty for you to do, too. Guided nature hikes are very opular, though you can hike by yourself as well. If you're the sporty type, there's basketball, shuffleboard, volleyball, golf, tennis and croquet. Skiing and snowboarding are the top attractions at Smuggs during the winter, but in summer you can enjoy pool games, lap swims, aqua-volleyball or aqua-aerobics. If you're the creative type, take an art workshop. Classes in pottery, painting and drawing are designed to bring out your creativity. You also can try canoeing and paddle-boating or even antiquing, shopping or sightseeing.
