The Top Family-friendly Destinations on the West Coast

The Lodge is a rustic retreat for families. More than 250 miles of hiking trails – 15 miles that are walking distance from the lodge – provide ample space for exploration. Ninety-five percent of the land is designated wilderness area and is home to herds of Roosevelt elk. Thousands of other wildlife species also call this land home.
The Rain Forest Interpretive Trail is perfect for families with small children. The half-mile trail has signs to teach visitors about the surrounding ecosystems. See more of the lush surroundings by exploring the longer 4-mile loop trail. Trout fishing and boat rentals and tours are also available seasonally.
Families can visit Lake Quinault Lodge year round and stay in one of the 92 guestrooms, which purposely do not include televisions, radios or telephones. Instead, children and adults can take a dip in the heated swimming pool or visit the game room and play Ping-Pong, billiards, Chess, Scrabble or arcade games. Rooms include private baths and lots of homey charm. The lobby features a Grand River Rock fireplace, and other amenities include an indoor swimming pool and gorgeous lake and mountain views.
After an exciting day with the kids, couples can unwind by the fireplace, relax in the sauna or visit the full-service bar. Massages are also available by appointment on weekends.

Located 4 miles from Stateline, Nev., on Lake Tahoe's South Shore, Zephyr Cove Resort and Marina offers picturesque beauty and exciting activities for families. Nestled in the pines, 28 cabins of different sizes can accommodate families of up to 10 members. Most have lake views and kitchens and are just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach.
