The Breezy City on the Bay
Explore Romantic San Francisco

There is a romantic quality to San Francisco, Calif., that is hard to match. With the ocean breeze, the ding of the trolley cars and the bountiful array of shops and restaurants, there is a perfect meshing of cosmopolitan and charm. If you crave romance, San Francisco is the place to be.
My husband and I recently traveled to the breezy city on the bay to take in a weekend of romance. After eating, strolling and shopping for four days we discovered treasures that are worth sharing.
Dining OutWe ate at several restaurants, but for us the highlight of our dining experience came the night we dined at Tommy Toy's, a French-inspired Chinese restaurant. You can order delectable entrees from the menu or consume a sampling of their best by ordering the signature seven-course dinner.
Sitting beside my husband during dinner I was serenaded by his constant exclamations of "Wow!" while we tried all seven specialties. The maitre de happily catered to my vegetarian diet by altering the regular dishes and bringing my meals sans the meat. Between each course, a hot, wet towel was delivered to us for hand cleaning, and every crumb was brushed from the table. We felt pampered beyond belief.
For breakfast, Mel's Diner is a must! The original location on Lombard is where American Graffiti was filmed years ago. That restaurant remains on that spot along with three other establishments at various locations. The diner where we ate breakfast was filled with photos from the making of the movie and many more posters and memorabilia from the 1950s. The food was scrumptious, inexpensive and filling.
