Sexy Seattle
The Home of Romance
By C.J. Johnson
Standing at Pike Place Market on a cool autumn morning I watched the donut batter pop and bubble in the boiling grease. The smell of donuts wafted through the air and warmed my nose. The pastries proceeded through the hot, oily machinery on their way to the serving port. As they came to the end of the line, golden brown and begging for my attention, the woman behind the counter grabbed them and plunged them into sugar and cinnamon. Moments later I bit into the warm, greasy paradise of a good donut and knew I was finally in Seattle, Washington.
Seattle has a lot to offer couples looking for romance. Donuts may not be the ideal romantic food, but strolling through the flower-rich marketplace is definitely a romantic experience. There is the famous fish toss area where customers see their selection sail through the air before it is bagged and bought. There are vendors who are as colorful as the produce they have for sale. I lost track of the nose rings and tattoos a half-hour into our shopping. And there are street performers who offer up playful tunes throughout the day.
To remain in the heart of the action in Seattle and to stay a few short blocks from the Pike Place Market, the Mayflower Park Hotel on Fourth and Olive is an ideal location. Through a door in the hotel lobby, it is easy to enter the Westlake shopping center. This is a classy, family-owned hotel that knows how to pamper its guests. The hotel started out in 1927, and it is still going strong.
