Times Square West, Las Vegas, Nev.

Many people think of Las Vegas as the drinking and gambling capital of the United States. However, when New Year's Eve rolls around, Las Vegas offers many family-friendly alternatives.

On New Year's Eve, head toward Fremont Street, located between Las Vegas Boulevard and Main Street. Fremont Street is home to The Fremont Street Experience, a dazzling light show cast onto a $70 million-light canopy and accompanied by a 540,000-watt sound system. This canopy, which covers Fremont Street, is made up of 2.1 million lights, including 180 strobes and 40 robotic mirrors.

On New Year's Eve, The Fremont Street Experience begins at 5 p.m. Confetti will drop from the canopy, party favors will be handed out to all attendees and an electronic fireworks display will coincide with the fireworks on the Strip.
