So Green, So Close
Golfing in Indiana
By Sally Campbell Grout
Belterra Casino Resort in Vevay features an 18-hole golf course designed by none other than Tom Fazio. Making the most of south central Indiana's rolling hills, the contoured elevation has differences of up to 65 feet, offering views of the Ohio River and Log Lick Creek. Large areas of colorful wildflowers make the course outdoors almost as vibrant as the casino indoors. For more information, call 888-BELTERRA.
The nearby Ohio River may be rolling by lazily, but this is the place to come when you're supercharged. The Links at the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun was designed by Tim Liddy and features 18 challenging holes that encourage players to plan each shot well. A round like that offers the perfect excuse to relax later. And what better place than a casino with restaurants and entertainment? For more information, call 800-472-6311.
The entire French Lick Springs Resort & Spa in French Lick has a rich history and is one of only 174 hotels recognized as a Historic Hotel of America. French Lick's two 18-hole courses have been a part of that rich history and have been challenging pros and amateurs for nearly a century.
The Valley Golf Links, built in 1907, is one of the oldest courses in the Midwest. Its more challenging counterpart, The Country Club Hill Course, was built in 1920 and has been recognized by Links Magazine as one of the country's best historic resort courses. In 1924, Walter Hagen won the seventh annual PGA Championship at this course. For more information, call 800-457-4042.
