Little ones will love the inexpensive kids' menu. It offers games and pictures to color, along with kid-pleasing entrees such as Jurassic Chicken Tidbits and the Rain Forest Rascal (kid-sized mini rain forest burgers). For a safari tie-in you can pre-schedule a tour of the restaurant at www.rainforestcafe.com. The Rainforest Caf矩s located at 605 N. Clark. Call (312) 787-1501.

7. Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum

Out of this world fun awaits at the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum. Sparkling new after a $40 million renovation, the state-of-the-art technology includes the StarRider interactive digital theatre (the first of its kind) and the 3-D Make Your Own Crater exhibit.

Don't miss the Infinity Shop. My son's kindergarten class still raves about the freeze-dried ice cream we bought. The planetarium is located at 1300 S. Lakeshore Dr. Call (312) 922-STAR.

8. John G. Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium
Explore the world's largest indoor aquarium and meet playful sea otters, beluga whales and baby sea horses. Kids love watching dolphins and whales dive or tail walk or seeing a diver hand-feed the animals. And your family can descend to the Underwater Viewing Gallery where you can closely study the inhabitants.

You can also make a reservation for "Breakfast With the Animals," which includes an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, an up-close, educational look at the animals, meeting the animal-care staff and a kids' activity. The aquarium is located at 1200 S. Lake Shore Dr. Call (312) 939-2438.

9. Seadog Speedboat Adventure

Feel the need for speed? Belt your family into Seadog's bright-yellow 149-passenger speedboat and jet across the water for 30 exhilarating minutes. Ask to book a ride with "the one and only Captain Jim." His jokes make for an entertaining ride, and he's full of fun facts about Chicago's history and architecture. Visit the Seadog Speedboat Adventure at Navy Pier (600 East Grand Avenue) or call (312) 822-7200.
