The Windy City's infinite entertainment and dining options have always thrilled me during business trips, but what does this bustling city have to offer my kids? I soon found Chicago is a whirlwind of family fun.

Whether you're seeking a pizza pie to wow the pickiest little one, a breathtaking city view from 1,000 feet up or a wild speedboat ride, Chicago is a sure kid-pleaser. And many of the city's museums and attractions offer free family nights. Yes, free! So pack your bags and head for Chicago's top 10 family activities below.

1. Navy Pier

Get ready for hours of fun at Navy Pier. You can brave the 15-story Ferris wheel, rent a bicycle built for two (or three!) or wind your way through Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze. You might also want to book a sightseeing or dinner cruise, watch IMAX films, take a virtual reality 3-D thrill ride, dine, shop and more. Restaurants include Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. & Marketplace and a food court featuring McDonald's ... The Future, with an hourly laser light show. Visit Navy Pier at 600 East Grand Avenue or call (312) 595-PIER.

2. Chicago Children's Museum

For hands-on fun, visit this amazing three-story children's mecca. Delighted kids splashed in the Waterways exhibit, dug for dinosaur skeletons in the Dinosaur Expedition and created and launched flying machines in the Inventing Lab. Other favorites included building with real tools in the Under Construction Zone and scaling the Kovler Family Climbing Schooner's three floors of rigging.

Parents will love the museum's raincoats (which keep kids dry), the separate baby areas and the gate latches (which prevent wandering). Don't forget to save time for the Children's Museum Store, which is packed with fun and educational souvenirs, toys and games. My 6-year-old adores his Create Your Own Slimy Gooey Gunk book and play set. Visit the museum at 700 E. Grand Avenue or call (312) 527-1000.

3. Bistro 110
