Take Time for Fun in Texas
Stroll the Kemah Boardwalk!
By Donna Smith
Imagine walking along a wooden pier nestled by the water's edge, drinking a delicious frozen drink. Smells of fried seafood and the ocean waft through the air as you watch the kids play carnival games, stopping occasionally to throw the seagulls a treat. As you make your way up the boardwalk towards the amusement park, you pause to let the train pass, waving to the passengers as they go by. Maybe now you'll head up to the stores and browse a while or let the kids get wet in the fountains. Or maybe you'll sit down at one of the tables on the water's edge and eat a delicious meal while the kids play on the playground equipment. You can do all of this, and more, at the Kemah Boardwalk, located only 20 miles from the hustle and bustle of downtown Houston, Texas.
Years ago, people from all over would make the drive to the small seaside town to eat. A few restaurants lined the water. People would eat dinner, maybe stop and throw the ducks a few pieces of bread or crackers they took from the restaurant, then make their way home. In the late 1990s, The Landry Group, based in Houston, Texas, renovated the Boardwalk and turned it into the spectacular place it is today. A family can spend the entire day in Kemah – there's something for everyone!
It's not the Texas heat making the droves of people file into the shops lining the Boardwalk. These quaint, one-of-a-kind shops will get the most reluctant shopper excited. Even the kids will want to join in!
Christmas is year-round, thanks to Christmas at Kemah. Unique holiday ornaments, collectibles, decorations and gifts can be found in this tropical Christmas paradise. From a fish ornament for the tree to a beautiful Waterford Crystal vase, there's something for everyone here. A new addition to the Boardwalk is the Thomas Kinkade Gallery. Stroll through and admire all this store has to offer from the "Painter of Light."
