Storybook Gardens
Old-fashioned Tranquil Fun in London, Ontario
By Julia Rosien
The park offers food and beverages, but be prepared to drink without a straw. They don't allow straws within park boundaries because of the danger to animals. If you'd rather picnic, head back to the castle and eat your lunch in Springbank Park, located beyond the parking lot. Enjoy the open space for a game of Frisbee or just rest in the shade.
Storybook Gardens offers old-fashioned entertainment for you and your family. Visit London during the summer months and experience the balloon and air show in June, International Blues Festival in July and Fringe Theatre Festival in August, to name only a few.
Driving through London, Ontario, brings back memories of the early '50s when gas station attendants checked your oil and washed your windows without being asked. It's only an hour's drive from the Windsor/Detroit border and two from Ontario's capital city, Toronto. In between, enjoy the charming countryside of Mennonite farms and roadside fruit stands.
Bring your kids and your imagination when you come to London. Prepare to be delighted with the simplicity of childhood. Leave your adult hat in the car and spin your ball cap around backwards. Storybook Gardens is only for the young at heart.
