Salt Lake City, Utah
Olympic Glory and More
By Kendeyl Johansen
The 2002 Winter Olympics. Pine-scented air. The "greatest snow on Earth." These are just a few of the reasons the whole world has been flocking to Salt Lake City, Utah, in recent years. Whether you're joining the crowds to bask in alpine splendor this winter or visiting the city itself, kid-savvy Salt Lake bursts with opportunities for family adventure. And we've scouted the city to help you find the ultimate food and fun for your brood.
Every mom knows that kids are happier, and less apt to whine, on a full stomach. That's why it's smart to kick off your vacation by visiting these favorite Salt Lake eateries. They all offer delicious fare along with fun dining twists.
Locals consistently vote Shivers a city favorite for its inexpensive burgers, sandwiches and thick milkshakes. Your kids will love dining aboard miniature train cars and watching the toy train (suspended from the ceiling) circle the restaurant. Don't skip the cheese fries – even if you have to hit the gym later. For more information call 801-466-9681.
For a taste of the old West mosey on down to the Old Salt City Jail where you'll be in no hurry to "break out of jail" while feasting on steaks, seafood and the delicious salad bar. The restaurant offers inexpensive early-bird dinners, a tempting kids menu and best of all – there's no need to dress up. For more information call 801-355-2422.
Another certain kid-pleaser is the Old Spaghetti Factory located in Salt Lake's turn-of-the-century Trolley Square. Envision fragrant tomato-cheese sauce, fresh pasta and steaming garlic bread. And if you arrive early your family can dine in a trolley car. For more information call 801-521-0424.
Finally, there's something to tempt everyone at the Jordan Commons entertainment complex. For an unforgettable fiesta dine at the Myan
