Revolutionary Fun in Boston

Get Brainy in Boston, Massachusetts

For "Yankee cooking" like clam chowder, pot roast, fish cakes and baked beans, Durgin Park at Faneuil Hall is the place. There's a modern-day kid's menu too. This is the Boston restaurant where the waitresses are famously rude and everyone eats at communal tables. Kids recognize "attitude," so let your kids be "in the know" about the Durgin Park tradition – and see if they pick up on it.

Where to Stay

Hyatt Regency Boston, located at 1 Avenue De Lafayette, has an ideal downtown location; it is within walking distance of Fanueil Hall and the Waterfront and close to the Boston Common and the "T." The hotel offers family-friendly packages with lots of kid perks.

The Royal Sonesta Hotel, located at 5 Cambridge Parkway, is a stone's throw from the Boston Museum of Science on the banks of the Charles River in Cambridge. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, which is a favorite with the kids. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the hotel's "Summerfest Celebration" includes a free scenic boat ride from the Charles River Boat Company, complimentary bicycles for riding along the riverside bike paths and free pushcart ice cream every afternoon.

Families traveling to Boston will find a vibrant, modern city with a traditional, almost "European" feel. Yet Boston is full of awesome attractions, world-class museums and a child-friendly approach to American history. It just may be that your kids feel smarter after visiting Boston – and you are sure to feel brilliant for bringing them here.
