Revolutionary Fun in Boston
Get Brainy in Boston, Massachusetts
By Maria T. Olia
" thing going on and will regale the kids with tales of a book bound in human skin, stories of the Salem witch hunts and will show them the grave of the real Mother Goose.
So comprehensive in its exhibits of science and technology, Boston's science museum is known simply as the Museum of Science. For the stroller set there's the hands-on Discovery Center and an updated dinosaur hall. For older kids, interactive exhibits like building and racing a solar-powered model car, Science in the Park and the Virtual Fish Tank are good bets. There are also plenty of add-ons for additional fees. There's IMAX, 3-D, Laser and Planetarium shows, as well as an indoor butterfly garden.
Definitely not stuffy, the Museum of Fine Arts is really family-friendly. Pick up an activity guide at the information center and unwrap the mysteries of Ancient Egyptian mummies, check out the paintings of the European masters like Monet and Van Gogh, and see important early-American works, like Paul Revere's silver and a well-known painting of George Washington. You will remember it as the classic elementary schoolroom cutout!
A four-story giant ocean tank is the centerpiece of the New England Aquarium. The sharks are awesome, but it's really 45-year-old Myrtle, the giant green sea turtle, who rules the tank. Crowd-pleasing sea lions, harbor seals and those always-animated penguins reside here too.
Stroll through the country's first public garden and then glide around the lagoon of he Public Garden on a Swan Boat. The 20-passenger boats are pedal-powered by college students.
