Park City Mountain Resort
Wild Rides and Fast Glides
By Kendeyl Johansen
Eager to stay on trails catering to your family's ability? An easy-to-read trail map will keep everyone on-track. Recommended trails are detailed on the map, with step-by-step instructions for following them. The 2.3-mile Billy Loop is the easiest way down. Advanced riders can rock-hop down the 12.4-mile Keystone Loop. After consulting the map, mount a bike, take a deep breath and push off.
Take your family back in time with a horseback ride. View ghostly silver-mine relics as your family winds through aspen trees and meadows blazing with wildflowers. Also, enjoy panoramic views of Park City. Experienced guides lead one- and two-hour rides or a 2 1/2-hour lunch ride featuring "great cowboy grub."
The stables are run by Rocky Mountain Recreation (www.rockymtnrec.com). Customized rides are available. Consider requesting an old-fashioned cookout among the aspens or a half-day tour of the mountain's 18 historic structures.
"Long pants and lace-up shoes are recommended for horseback riding," O'Brien says.
PCMR is a short walk from Park City's Main Street and a half-hour drive from Salt Lake City. For more information call 1-800-222-PARK or visit the resort on-line at www.parkcitymountain.com.
