Discover the Trains of Washington State
By Teresa Nordheim
Prices range from $80 to $135 per night. Children under 2 stay free year-round. March 1 through April 30 all rooms are $50 a night. (Call to confirm; restrictions may apply.) Visit them online at www.ironhorseinnbb.com.
Miniature World in Birch Bay, Wash., sports a beautifully landscaped 18-hole miniature golf course, go-karts and a miniature train ride through the Forest of Imagination. The train chugs past the go-karts and around the miniature golf course. The tracks then travel through a wooded area filled with many displays. During this awesome train ride, you will see some of your favorite characters from cartoons, movies and even the political world. Watch out for the dinosaurs in Don's Jurassic Park and the other forest creatures peeking out from every nook and corner.
The summer train cost is $2.50 for a 15-minute train ride. In December, over a million lights decorate the park. Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while you await the train ride. The train magically travels through the winter scenes and ends at the North Pole. Mr. and Mrs. Claus greet you as the train stops. The Santa train is $5 per person. Visit their Web site, www.miniatureworld.org, for photos, schedules and a video of the train's beginning.
