Las Vegas Frugal Fun
10 Free Things for Families to See and Do in Vegas
By Jill Weinlein
9. MGM Hotel: Walk or take the monorail back to your starting point and walk inside to the Lion Habitat. Remember Leo the lion, roaring and welcoming moviegoers to the silver screen at the opening of each MGM movie? MGM Grand Hotel offers visitors an up close and educational glimpse of three female lions in a unique Lion Habitat. The glass windows and ceilings allow guests to view the sleepy mammals up close. They sleep from 18 to 20 hours a day.
10. Ethel M Chocolate Factory Tour: Get back in your car and drive seven miles from the Strip for a free chocolate factory tour and free chocolate samples. Located in an industrial area, it's a nice break from the over-stimulating Strip. After the tour, families can walk on pathways through the Botanical Cactus Garden and water filtration plant. During the Christmas holidays, this area is illuminated into a holiday wonderland. Local choirs sing holiday tunes and Santa appears every Friday and Saturday evening.
