Las Vegas Frugal Fun
10 Free Things for Families to See and Do in Vegas
By Jill Weinlein
2. Caesars Palace: Walk inside the elegant Caesars Palace to see the saltwater aquarium and free Race for Atlantis show. We entered the Forum shops and walked to the back of the mall to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch and to view the aquarium. Sting and bat rays, puffer fish, barracuda and brightly colored tropical fish swam near our table. We noticed the fish swimming faster than usual when a diver fed them. Shortly afterwards, lights in the Forum dimmed, entertainment screens turned on and animatronic performers fight for the control of Atlantis with smoke, music, water and lights. It shows every hour from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
3. FAO Schwarz: Near the Atlantis show, a 47-foot wooden Trojan horse captures your attention as you walk into the three-story store. Our girls spent over an hour playing with the toys, cuddling the overstuffed animals and looking at the doll collection. An ice cream parlor in the store serves some of the most delicious ice cream in Vegas.
4. Festival Fountain: Walking out of the Caesars Forum toward the west end of the mall, we watched another free laser show at the Festival Fountain featuring Greek gods Bacchus, Venus, Apollo and Plutus. It drew a large crowd as we watched the animatronic performers.
5. Pick up a free Las Vegas Magazine 2 Go. Its offes maps and coupons for free items and discounts.
