One day should be reserved for snorkeling, and what better place to go than a protected marine sanctuary with 80-degree water and 100-foot visibility. We discovered a company called Fair Wind Snorkel and Cruise, which has a great half-day trip that includes breakfast, lunch and snorkel gear to take you to one of the best fish-viewing locations.

We discovered a company called Fair Wind Snorkel and Cruise which has a great half-day trip that includes breakfast, lunch and snorkel gear to take you to one of the best fish-viewing locations.

The boat leaves in the morning from Keauhou Bay (in Kona) and takes a 40-minute cruise to Kealakekua Bay, which is a protected marine sanctuary with incredible tropical fish. We brought our 6-month-old, and he hung out in his car seat on the boat and took in the view. During the winter months you're sure to spot humpback whales diving and playing as you cruise to and from the snorkel spot. We saw several, which was an added bonus that was worth the price of admission in itself.

Have Some Grownup Vacation Fun

Just because you bring the kids on vacation doesn't mean there isn't time for parents to indulge a little. Hawaii's Big Island has some of the best golf anywhere, with numerous courses at virtually every resort.

At the Outrigger, there are both a championship course (the King's Course) and a Beach Course with perfect ocean views. My husband particularly liked the cool towel he received after his round of golf.
