Cape Cod
Explore New England's Salty Charm
By Maria T. Olia
For families, the indoor wave pool with two giant water slides is the main attraction at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis. The rooms are large and even the high-season rates are affordable. During the summer there is a full schedule of kids' activities – crafts, field games and bingo. In the evening, there are nightly bonfires for toasting marshmallows and family movies in the courtyard.
The Governor Prence Inn in Orleans is another family favorite. The draw here is the hotel's location – part of the Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Path runs directly behind the hotel and the hotel is only minutes from both Skaket and Nauset Beach. The rooms are basic, but they each come with a microwave and small refrigerator to accommodate a family's snacking needs. The kids will enjoy the large outdoor pool and there are nice grounds for a family walk.
Cape restaurants are casual and are extremely child-friendly. Best of all, there are lots of alternatives to the usual fast-food places.
