Family-friendly Cruising
Having Fun at Sea Together
By Laura Cone
Christine and Chris Morin of Silver Spring, Md., also traveled with friends, which made it easier to take care of infant, Samantha, who is 7 months old. They brought their two other children, Hannah, 6, and Corey, 8, along on the cruise as well. "So far, we have done everything with the kids," says Christine Morin.
Chris Morin says he liked how laid back the cruise felt. "There is plenty for [the kids] to do and we have been able to take the baby back to the room to take a nap instead of having to truck her around everywhere like at Disney World," he says.
Roderick Williams of Raleigh, N.C., had no problem dropping his daughter, Hannah, 6, off at the Camp Carnival children's playroom on the Atlantic deck of the ship. A children's pool is one deck above on the Promenade deck.
Williams went aboard with a group of 25 people, including his mother, Alice, and stepfather, James Busch, and their children and grandchildren. The cruise, he says, gave his blended family time to bond. "We wanted to get all the grandkids together and have a family outing," he says. "A cruise is perfect because you don't have to be together all of the time but each person can do their own separate thing. Our family loves to be on the water."
His daughter, Hannah, says she played bingo one night and enjoyed the welcome aboard party in the Rock 'n Roll Disco. "My favorite thing is getting in the water," she says.
Roderick says he planned to take his daughter swimming with the dolphins, one of many shore excursions offered on this particular cruise.
