Let's Make a (Vacation) Deal
6 Ways You Can Squeeze in a Great (and Cheap!) Vacation Before It's Too Late
This state, which houses a number of choice vacation spots – Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Panama City just to name a few – is actually cheaper this time of the year. "Tired of the humid temperatures, many Floridians head for cooler mountain locations during the late summer," Karpinski says. "And to make a little extra money, they rent out their properties while they're gone. With just a little searching you can be enjoying a bargain vacation on South Beach in no time."
Everyone has seen those huge houses on or near the beach that have four or more bedrooms. These usually rent for a pretty penny during the peak of tourism season, but after the season slows down in August you can find great deals in these homes.
"To keep bringing in rental dollars some vacation homeowners will lock off some of the bedrooms and rent their home for a rate that is comparable to how many rooms are available," Karpinski says. "It's a great way to spend your vacation in a beautiful property, and rather than squeeze the family into a hotel room, you'll all have some room to roam."
Always take advantage of mid-week pricing. If vacation homeowners couldn't rent a property for the full week, they'll sometimes reduce rates to try and get some renters in to finish out a week. Or hold off on your vacation until the very end of August or early fall.
"The absolute cheapest weeks to rent vacation homes are the last week of August, the second or third week of September or the third or fourth week of October," Karpinski says. "These offer great opportunities for anyone who slipped up and forgot to plan their vacation or for anyone looking to treat themselves to a bonus vacation when the summer has officially come to an end."
