Disney in the Off-Season

Less Crowds, More Time for Fun

Weather or Not...
Although there are never any guarantees regarding weather, in the off-season it can prove to be even more of a gamble. It rained for the three days before we planned on visiting the park and then, joyfully, the sun broke through for our big day. On the plus side, it was sunny, but cool. The California sun did not beat down on us as it does in summer months, which can turn not only children, but adults as well, into whiney, uncomfortable, heat-stricken people.

Be prepared by packing an umbrella, sweatshirts and jackets. Once the sun does set, you will need something to keep warm while you watch the parade or squeeze in one last trip on Space Mountain.

Maintenance
The rides at Disneyland have to be worked on and tuned-up at some point throughout the year and more than likely, it will be in the off-season. The Disney Web site has a list of unavailable attractions on the date you plan to visit. The Matterhorn was the only big ride we were not able to enjoy during our visit.

Open Hours
The park is generally not open as long during the off-season. Even weekday and weekend hours can vary. On the Thursday we were there, for instance, the park opened at 10:00 a.m. and closed at 8:00 p.m. On the weekend it stayed open until 10:00 p.m. and during the summer months, it opens earlier and stays open until midnight on weekends.
