Opening the Eyes and Minds of Children
The Children's Museum of Richmond
By Carma Haley Shoemaker
At "Our Great Outdoors," children can climb a tree, sit in an Eagle's nest and even try on wings of their own. By allowing children to experience nature by touching, feeling and participating in it, the Children's Museum of Richmond hopes they gain a respect and understanding regarding nature and all it has to offer. Whether children want to discover a cave, glide under a turtle tank or splash in a woodland stream, getting in touch with nature has never been as easy as it is at "Our Great Outdoors."
Dedicated to the Children's Museum of Richmond's smallest and youngest visitors (infants to age 3), "Little Children's Museum of Richmond" allows children to be children. Rolling, climbing, running and jumping are all encouraged here. There are no boundaries to what the little ones are capable of doing. With climbing tubes and "hiding trees," even the youngest of children will find something to intrigue their curiosity.
In addition to these areas, the Children's Museum of Richmond offers an outside play area, museum shop and a community commons ground. With plenty to do for children of all ages, as well as the adult they bring along, the Children's Museum of Richmond is a day well spent.
