Away for the Holidays
Fun Places to Make Family Memories
By Elisa Ast All
Epcot's prime attraction for the holidays is its annual Candlelight Processional, a retelling of the Christmas story by celebrity narrators accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir. The show is quite moving, and you will hear some of your favorite holiday songs like "What Child Is This," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Joy to the World." The Candlelight Processional is part of Epcot's Holidays Around the World celebration, which hosts observances of Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah throughout the World Showcase. Check out a variety of holiday story times hosted by different countries, as well as visit Santa by the U.S.A. pavilion.
It's not just the parks that are in the spirit of the season; Disney's resorts are also decked out for the holidays, each in the style of the era or region they represent. Guests at Disney's Beach Club Resort may be treated to a life-sized, totally-edible gingerbread carousel made with 100 pounds of icing, 50 pounds of dark chocolate and 100 pints of eggs.
You can't ride the carousel at Disney's Beach Club Resort, but you can eat it! The life-size, edible carousel is a holiday tradition at Disney. It features ponies made of sugar, giant candy cane poles, handcrafted poinsettias and portraits of famous Disney characters on a lighted roof of gingerbread.
At Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a huge tree graces the atrium and a life-size gingerbread house resides nearby, where guests may purchase gingerbread cookies, Santa lollipops, small gingerbread houses, chocolates, gingerbread ornaments and more.
