Expecting a Spa Experience
Why Are Moms-to-be Heading to the Spa?
By Pamela Allen
Although there are millions of babies born in the United States every year, many women feel alone during their pregnancy. With friends who don't have kids, and families dispersed throughout the country, many women have no one to turn to for advice. Joining an online community gives you an opportunity to connect, ask questions, and share your experiences. The online community Barefoot and
Pregnant has partnered with the Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa in Sausalito, Calif. It complements the full-service spa with specialized prenatal treatments such as acupuncture, belly massage and an opportunity to preserve your pregnant form with a full belly cast.
Edamame, the Maternity Spa, is dedicated to the unique skin and body care needs of pregnant women. It's located on the East Coast with branches in Manhattan, the New York suburbs, Charlotte, N.C., and Natick, Mass. Their philosophy is to offer a range of restorative treatments to give balance and harmony to the body and soul. They want you to both look and feel special. They offer a range of classes including pre- and postnatal yoga, and even prenatal yoga with a partner.
A couple's spa escape, or "babymoon," is a wonderful way to have a romantic getaway before the reality of late-night feedings sets in. Many spas have packages designed for this special time. Most couples choose to gt away during the second trimester of pregnancy when morning sickness has abated and before the obstetrician's ban on flying has taken hold.
