Expecting a Spa Experience

Why Are Moms-to-be Heading to the Spa?

Most spas suggest that you avoid massage during the first trimester of pregnancy since it might trigger dizziness or morning sickness. After this stage the most important step is to find a therapist who is licensed in your state and is trained in prenatal massage.

Beauty Procedures

Manicures and pedicures are a great way to relax when you are pregnant. As long as the space is well ventilated, so that you are not inhaling chemical fumes, it is a safe and fun indulgence.

Facials can also be a special treat during pregnancy. A soothing treatment would be the perfect antidote for skin made sensitive by pregnancy's hormones.

Day and destination spas flourish throughout the United States offering a smorgasbord of treatment options. You can put together your own combination of pampering therapies or choose a preset package. The greatest challenge will be choosing the ambiance to fit your mood.

A Few to Consider

The Sanctuary combines traditional Southern hospitality with treatments derived from the low-country coastline. In a serene atmosphere that recalls the beauty of a grand Southern porch you can select the Maternity Massage and combine it with an array of services such as the Mint Julep Facial and a spa manicure or pedicure.

The Canyon Ranch Resort in Lenox, Mass., and Tucson, Ariz., is the ultimate destination resort. Their goal is to motivate you to achieve the healthiest life possible. Working with a program advisor during a stay that lasts four days or more, you can create a program of fitness and nutrition that is specifically tailored to your needs. Another wonderful alternative is their focused Pregnancy Program. It teaches self-nurturing through nutrition counseling, movement therapy and safe exercise. The package also includes massage and a manicure or pedicure.
